The particulars of Barack Obama’s brush with Puerto Rico on his historic White House run are unimportant compared with the promise of the first black president’s election and what it holds for the United States’ most populous territory. The fact that he was born in a tropical island far away from the U.S. mainland also bodes well that he will eventually see status through local eyes.
But though critics held that he campaigned too little in Puerto Rico, his detailed letter to the governor contained a laundry list of bold actions on the economy and status. Continue reading
